Day and Night Posts[]
Prologue: Decisions |
---|
New York City, 1924 Prohibition was in full swing. The mafia were growing. The FBI had their hands full. Crime had spiked. The average Joe just tried to get by. It was a crazy time and that made the people crazy. Everyone was out for themselves, looking after number one. There were "friends," but alliances were tentative, always watching their backs. Decisions had been made. Some couldn't stand to see others alive, let alone walking the streets in daylight. Decisions had been made. Each thought long and hard about who they planned to take out. The decision had been made. Night 1 will end at 9 PM CDT on Thursday! Get those actions in! |
Night 1: Sneak |
---|
Aware that everyone had their own agenda, each one made their way from their hideouts/HQs to achieve their own ends. The Godfather and Wheelman from the Mafia. The Grocer and the Bar Owner of the Civilians. The Murderer and Crooked Cop from the Criminals. Each set out to find their target. Each found them easily, making mental notes on their identities. The Button Man, Barber and Analyst stayed in and made some calls. Their informants would know who they could trust. The Director and Larcenist were no so much concerned with who wanted them alive as who wanted them dead. Two tried a different tactic. One, the Accountant got to work and quickly froze mewminator's accounts, making him unable to act. The other, the FBI Field Agent made a quick move, attempting to limit the field as quick as possible. It may have worked if he had targeted the correct individual. The day broke with information abounding. What would happen now? Someone had to go... |
Day 1: Stalemate |
---|
The votes came in slowly. But they came in. When the sun set, it seemed coolkid had the most. But, of course this was a Cut-Throat time. And for coolkid, it seemed he would live to cut more throats. NO DEATH!!! |
Night 2: The Color of Red |
---|
The second night began much like the first. Two full groups, the Mafia and the Criminals decided on figuring people out. They were joined by the Bar Owner and all but the Analyst from the FBI.
The Analyst switched tactics from the previous night, now concerned with who wanted him dead instead of alive. The Barber knew his clientele well. Or at least he thought. His straight razor was ready when he saw that the face in the mirror was not who he expected. The Grocer saw him. One of those he felt was ruining the neighborhood. Gj walked through the door of his store, unaware of the animosity directed toward him. The Grocer had the young men at his shop trained well. With merely a glance, he spurred them into action. Gj was taken by the three employees and dragged into the back. They beat him viciously before stabbing him to death and dumping his body in a back alley. Gj wouldn't be found until the next morning. The long night ended with more information than was healthy for the surviving players. Blood would flow in upcoming nights, of that they were sure. But tonight, the dark alley behind the Grocery Store stood alone, painted red with the blood of golfjunkie. |
Day 2: Cruelty |
---|
Things progressed slowly. Though, when the day had ended, one stood above the rest. All of those who were at each other's throats banded together to take him out. Cruelmind ran through the streets, the mob following him, rabid at the thought of his death. It didn't take long for them to catch up. Cruelmind grew tired and only a stumble spelled his doom. The converged on him, fists and feet crashing into his body. When he was lifted up the light-post by the neck, many were content to see that he was already dead. But, some were unaware of their mistake. They may find out after the fact that the one they voted to kill was one that they needed alive. Only time would tell. |
Night 3: Rage |
---|
The night was nearly extended. Some seemed to miss the message sent that the one pulling all of the strings had been promoted. His higher place was where he needed everyone's plans. But, some – 5, in fact – still viewed him as a normal person, still with Average Joe responsibilities, still a regular member. He was ashamed of those five players.
But, as for the events of the evening. Eight continued the trend of seeking out those they wished dead. The Button Man, Director, Informant, Analyst, Grocer, Bar Owner, Accountant and Murderer all made their way through the city, seeking another. One, the Crooked Cop, switched gears, seemingly concerned with who wanted him dead. Apparently, he was starting to feel the heat from IA. Five of them had harsher plans, more destructive intent. Five had targets in mind. Five - Wheelman, Bag Man, Field Agent, Barber and one more hunted them. But, when the morning broke, only one body could be found. Kitsune lay in a pool of his own blood, an extra smile adorning his neck. From an alley, a figure watched as the body was covered and taken away. A small, evil smile creased his face as he slid his blade back into it's sheath. As he walked away, he exuded a sense of intimidation and fear. The Godfather was not to be trifled with. |
Day 3: Overwhelmed |
---|
Unacceptable. That was the feeling from the night before that poured over into the day. The Godfather had to die. But who was he? And did they really care? Someone would pay, regardless of who he was. Aaryan found himself alone on the streets as the Sun gracefully dove toward the horizon. As the sky began to change from blue to purple, he felt the eyes on him. Just before the last bit of light left the world, he knew he was no longer alone. But, the game being as it was, when darkness took hold... nothing happened. He remained on guard for several hours, waiting for the mob to attack. It was well after midnight before he relaxed.
WHAM! The brick slammed into the back of his head, sending a burst of light to his eyes. He stumbled and fell, crumpling to the ground, dazed and bewildered. “It's so late,” he mumbled. “So dark. Why wait?” Several figures gathered around him, their eyes narrowed with hatred. “To give you hope,” one said. “Because,” another continued. “When hope takes hold, the loss is that much more harsh.” His eyes closed within the pained expression on his face. He wished he could shut them out, ignore the truth they spoke. But, hope was there. Hope had taken hold. And now, for Aaryan, the hope was gone. |
Night 4: Second Chances |
---|
Three of the Mafia left together. They marched down the street, searching for their targets. One by one, they dropped away from the others, their targets found. First the Button Man, then the Wheelman and finally the Bag Man. They located their targets, identified them and quickly made their way back toward their hideout.
The Field Agent left the office without anyone knowing he was gone. He was highly trained and there was no doubt that he would discover who he was seeking. He completed his objective quickly, finding the one he sought and made his way home for the night. The Analyst could have helped him, if only he had asked. He had contacts throughout the city, willing to give him anything he needed. He contacted a few of them until he found one with the information. Moments later, he had his answer. The Crooked Cop was in a similar position. He had plenty of Confidential Informants willing to help him out for a little help themselves. It seemed as though all of them wanted to help, though they were only out for themselves. But, by the end of the night, the Cop knew the identity he wanted. The Informant was not in a good mood tonight. He was sick of staring at people. Sick of gathering information. Tonight was a night for action. He grabbed a gun and charged out of the FBI. He searched like a madman until he found who he was looking for. A small smile creased his face as he raised the revolver to eye level. His thumb jerked the hammer back with a click. His target heard the sound and turned, his face revealed by the light of the moon. The Informant paused, brow furrowing. The barrel of his gun lowered a fraction of an inch. That couldn't be right. He was sure he had the right one. But, the evidence was in front of him. He was wrong. The fight went out of him and he slowly slunk away, heading back to base to regroup. The Barber was just about to close up shop when the bell over the door cried out. The man stepped in and asked if he could get a quick shave before he closed up. The Barber, thinking what good luck this was, readily agreed. The man sat and closed his eyes, seemingly relaxed in the chair. The Barber hid the malicious intent from appearing on his face. The straight razor was opened and he steeled himself to strike. At that moment, the man introduced himself, eyes still closed and unaware of the blade about to touch his exposed neck. The Barber brought the razor down, placing it against the man's neck and flicked his wrist. Several minutes later, the man was completely clean-shaven.
The Grocer again was on the prowl, this time taking an active role in it. Granted, his henchman were with him, but he felt he wouldn't even need them this time. Akriti came around the corner, head down, walking fast as she made her way to her destination. She nearly walked into the four men that stood before her. When she saw them, her eyes grew wide. Without thinking, she turned and ran, sprinting for all she was worth. She didn't feel it, only heard. The shot rang out, echoing down the street. Before she realized it, she had stopped running. She stood in the middle of the street, breathing heavily. She was afraid, but she knew she had to check herself. Glancing down, she saw that a hole had been punched through her chest, blood pouring from the would. Her muscles collapsed beneath the stress and she fell, staring up at the bright night sky as the life seeped from her body. This is what he did. He was the Murderer and he was finally back to his game. They were sick, the things he did. Evisceration, mutilation, imprisonment and torture. There was something wrong with him. But, he was smart enough to know that he had no time to play his games now. Too many looking for him. He had no time. So, when he found lionheart, he made quickly work of him. He simply dragged him to the ground, wrapped his hands around LH's neck and squeezed the life from him. Not his usual method, but still somewhat satisfying.
In an undisclosed location, not far from where the vengeful players made their moves, sat a group of men. If anyone had been present in the room, they would have no idea who these men were. They sat around a circular table made of fine mahogany. Over their faces, they wore masks. One in particular seemed to be in charge of this group. He leaned back in his chair, folding his hands together. “I see things are getting a little chummy over there,” he said. “We can't have that now, can we?” “No, Host,” someone said. “We can not. Is it time?” “It is time.” the Host replied. “Send them.” The group nodded and rose as one, leaving the Host to himself. He was concerned that the puppets he was manipulating were working together. This was a cut-throat time. They had their objectives and needed to fulfill them at all costs. This was not about friendship. In some cases, friends could be made. But those cases were rare. This was about completing your objective and not caring about anyone else. If someone was in front of you, it was your job to take them out. But, they would find that out soon enough.
“Second chances are a wonderful thing. But... How far do they go?” |
Day 4: Halt |
---|
Was everyone scared? Nervous about the act of brutality from the night? The way the votes were placed mad it seem so, but who could tell? Marq was up for the lynch by a large margin. She was led to the gallows by several of the people involved in this heinous chain of events. As the noose was placed over her head a burst of gunfire exploded behind the gathering. Everyone hit the ground, most drawing guns and turning to search for the attempted killer. They looked for only a few moments, but when they turned back, Marquessa had fled. |
Night 5: Bloodbath |
---|
The Analyst and Crooked Cop had similar ideas tonight. Both wanted someone that was dead. And both had their ways. It was unknown to most, but both managed to bring back Fat Tony and golfjunkie, respectively.
Seven others had the exact opposite ideas. It started as carefully laid plans. It started as premeditated actions against others. It ended with a brawl in the street. The Button Man ended up killing coolkid with a blade to the forehead. The Field Agent managed to get behind Hidden Z and with a quick twist of his arms, snapped his neck. The Bar Owner and Informant were both gunning for Shadow. They came at her from two sides, dropping her to her knees before placing their guns to the back of her head. After a short prayer, they fired, dropping her onto her face. The Murderer was in a hurry again and resorted to strangling the life from Aura. The Barber brought his straight razor with him and deftly sliced the throat of cruelmind, watching him bleed out. At the height of the insanity, The Grocer climbed atop a building overlooking the melee. He screamed at the top of his lungs, a wild, maniacal, inhuman scream and leapt from the roof. Holding a katana outstretched in his hands, he came down screaming, his eyes wild and murderous. When he hit the ground, Framm was horrifically destroyed. The night ended with blood running in the streets. Who knew what the day would bring? |
Day 5: Stagnation |
---|
The day was slow after the brutality of the night before. Those that were newly revived could not even be found to cast their vote. But, enough votes were in. Mew was up for the lynch, but when time came to off him, he was not to be found either. |
Night 6: Revival |
---|
Apparently, everyone was a little put off by the events of the previous night. No deaths would occur tonight. Only life. The Informant decided he would sit this one out. But, the Bag Man, Analyst & Barber were determined to press on. They recovered those that had previously thought to be dead. Aaryan, LH & Aura were brought back into the fray, thrown back into the nightmare they had all created for themselves. When they day broke, the streets were quiet. But, soon, there would be more blood. And who knew who would fall for the last time and who would live on. |
Day 6: Short-Lived |
---|
Gj's return was short-lived. |
Night 7: Symmetry |
---|
The day had ended and the remaining killers returned to the shadows. If it could be said that there was balance in their game of death, this would be the night. Three of each. Three kills and three revivals. Though, balance is not what it always seems. As the three revivals occurred – the Bag Man bringing nox back, the Informant reviving Akriti and the Barber saving Framm – The three kills were taking place.
The Bar Owner had an agenda against Aaryan, that much was plain. But, Aaryan obviously didn't see it, making his way home as if nothing were wrong. He never made it. A broken bottle found it's way into his back and home was lost. The Murderer and Analyst were arguing. Arguing over who would get to kill Marquessa. Their debate became so heated, that as one, they drew their guns, placed them against her head and pulled the trigger. Three kills and two deaths. The balance would have to come another night. For this night was about control. It was about power. And in a room not far from the neighborhood where these actions occurred, another meeting was taking place. The hooded group came to order under the leadership of the one they referred to as “The Host.” A nervous apprehension hung on the group as he stood to address them. His voice was low, but there was an underlying tone of rage to it. “Gentlemen,” he began. “This has gone on too long. It ends. And it ends soon. Very shortly, those fools will discover their errors. And the ones who remain will cling to their pathetic lives as if they meant something. Soon, there will be a second attempt. And that attempt shall fail. They will cry out in sorrow as they realize that second chances are the greatest thing in life. Because it will be then that they understand... There are no thirds.” |
Day 7: Apathy |
---|
No one cared. But Aki might have. If she had lived long enough to try. |
Night 8: Love |
---|
If there is love, there is probably hate. The two do not exist without the other. So, the Director decided that Fat Tony could no longer live. Done. The Analyst wanted mew dead. Complete. And the Barber ironically wanted abhisk dead. So, the hate was covered for this night.
But, when it came to love... The Informant couldn't stand to see coolkid in the ground. So, up he dug him, reviving him somehow. Though, the most telling bit of love came a little later in the night. The Grocer and the Bar Owner both had their eyes set on the same person. When they found Hidden Z hidden in a dumpster, they worked diligently through night to revive him. At one point, they even mopped each other's brows. When Hidden Z finally gasped and opened his eyes, they stood together, smiling and reached for each other's hands. “Doctor,” the Grocer said. “Doctor,” the Bar Owner replied. Suddenly, they realized where they were and that the situation had not changed, only their knowledge of it. Their eyes narrowed and they backed away from each other slowly. |
Epilogue: Endings |
---|
The Host and his cadre were gathered once again. The room was dark and their hoods were up, obscuring their faces. The meeting was called to order and the Host stood.
“Gentlemen,” he began. “It has ended. Our experiment is concluded.” He left his spot at the head of the table and slowly circled the group. “We have discovered many things here. We have discovered hatred and love, harshness and mercy, regret and forgiveness. But above all things, we have learned that we, and only we, share an ability to truly attain our goals without mercy. We alone are able to be unmerciful. And only we have shown the cut throat spirit. They are weak. They lack the basic survival instinct. Perhaps if they had known that there were only second chances, that once killed and revived, they hung by a thread. Death can only be postponed once. For when death returns a second time, it is final. And none but the Almighty may prevent it.” The Host made a full round, returning to his place at the head of the group of hooded figures. He stood for a moment, scanning the room, meeting the eyes of every man present. His hands slapped down on the thick wood of the table as he leaned forward, his icy eyes invading the depths of each of their very souls. “So, now, our winners shall be rewarded. Rewarded with the insignificant existence they call their lives. But, it shall not last. For he who will not stand up for his own, he who will not stand strong to the end, he who will never understand that, to survive, you must give up a piece of yourself. A part of your very soul. For those that acquiesce shall be trampled by the hooves of the Four Horsemen as they ride down upon us, subduing nations with their War, Famine, Conquest and Death. But, we, dear friends, shall never back down. We shall stand up for what we believe and show the world that they can not bring us to ruination! We shall live victorious!”
