November 5, 2009

An awkward post title, I'll admit. It isn't very often that I remember the specific date of a specific happening, but this one had a pretty easy frame of reference.

I met Breanna while I was waiting for a bus to Kuwait City. It was in an American + British compound that acted as a hub for personnel traveling throughout the Middle East. I was queued in line for the bus to go to the larger airport that would take me to Shannon, Ireland. We talked for an hour or so about nothing and eventually saw the Brits and the barrel--and then I remembered that it was Guy Fawkes Night.

I've been to a lot of places and worked with a lot of people. There are very few times where I've actually seen (let alone participated) in some kind of cultural celebr…

A-Cen 2011

"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."

And it continues with a plane to O'Hare, a train to Rosemont, and a bus to the hotel (although I should have just walked). It concludes with the same, but in reverse.

Seriously, though, I've seen that quote in a thousand posters. There is a level of wisdom that goes along with it, but a journey of a thousand miles isn't typically just steps. What does this have to do with A-Cen 2011? I will tell you: I don't know.

So A-Cen was amazing, as it always is. I got some photos of Hirk looking like a chick (in eye makeup, too). I saved some people from a drunk rambler. Met up with some old con friends. Made quite a few new friends (Sam, Molly(!), Connor, Nicole). I took second in a G…

Travel

I've spent a great deal of time away from any place I would call "home". It has left me with the soul of a vagabond, never really calling any place home for long. I've lived in a hundred cities in dozens of countries on five continents. I've lived on three oceans. All of these places I remember for their own reasons. The coziest place I've lived was Montalcino. The most fun I've had was in Brisbane. Party (and everything else) in Tokyo.

This was going to be a blog about Montalcino, but I realise now that Tokyo is a much better city to blog about (without uploading pictures, which I will eventually do).

Tokyo is huge and that's an understatement. At 13,000,000+ people, you'll never be bored. At any given time of the day (or night), y…

Stories

I like to think that I've led a pretty interesting life. It's not really true, though. I've just been in some pretty interesting situations in some very interesting places. I've run cons to buy food. The stories below are true in every detail. If they contradict something you've heard previously, it's all because you've heard a skewed version of my story in the past.

My favourite con is a simple one that most people wouldn't even consider a scam. I've done it a hundred times in a hundred places, but it's never been as beneficial as where I'm at now. I call it the swimming pool scam. I like it because it is simple, but also because nobody's on the sour end of it.

On days like today, when the weather is nice, the beaches are always pac…

Ask and it shall be given

(EDIT: Comments are open. Feel free to leave some.)

Yesterday, Mo suggested I start a blog. I've been considering doing something like this for some time. (How cliche is this? Isn't this how every blog starts?) So I'll just get down to it.

The hard part is to not let my feelings about present games get involved. So I'll start with a past game (not every one of my blogs will be about mafia games, though). Let's talk Angel 2.

Ya know what, let's skip Mafia talk today. We'll jump right into the Rumour Corner. But I don't know any good rumours. I could start some about me, if you'd like. I could lie to you to make me seem larger than life. I could steal from a hundred stories and tell you a lie so familiar you would swallow it whole. I could, an…
